Verses 19-29 GROUP_1385 50.19-29
19
وَجَاءتْ سَكْرَةُ الْمَوْتِ بِالْحَقِّ ذَلِكَ مَا كُنتَ مِنْهُ تَحِيدُ
The trance of death will come revealing the truth: that is what you were trying to escape.
20
وَنُفِخَ فِي الصُّورِ ذَلِكَ يَوْمُ الْوَعِيدِ
The trumpet will be sounded. This is the Day [you were] warned of.
21
وَجَاءتْ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ مَّعَهَا سَائِقٌ وَشَهِيدٌ
Each person will arrive attended by an [angel] to drive him on and another to bear witness.
22
لَقَدْ كُنتَ فِي غَفْلَةٍ مِّنْ هَذَا فَكَشَفْنَا عَنكَ غِطَاءكَ فَبَصَرُكَ الْيَوْمَ حَدِيدٌ
You were heedless of this, but now We have removed your veil, so your sight today is sharp.
23
وَقَالَ قَرِينُهُ هَذَا مَا لَدَيَّ عَتِيدٌ
His companion attendant will say, ‘I have here his record ready.’
24
أَلْقِيَا فِي جَهَنَّمَ كُلَّ كَفَّارٍ عَنِيدٍ
‘Cast into Hell every ungrateful, rebellious one,
25
مَّنَّاعٍ لِّلْخَيْرِ مُعْتَدٍ مُّرِيبٍ
hinderer of good, transgressor, causing others to doubt,
26
الَّذِي جَعَلَ مَعَ اللَّهِ إِلَهًا آخَرَ فَأَلْقِيَاهُ فِي الْعَذَابِ الشَّدِيدِ
who has set up another god besides God: cast him into severe punishment’—
27
قَالَ قَرِينُهُ رَبَّنَا مَا أَطْغَيْتُهُ وَلَكِن كَانَ فِي ضَلَالٍ بَعِيدٍ
and his associate [Satan] will say, ‘Lord, I did not make him transgress, he had already gone far astray himself.’
28
قَالَ لَا تَخْتَصِمُوا لَدَيَّ وَقَدْ قَدَّمْتُ إِلَيْكُم بِالْوَعِيدِ
God will say, ‘Do not quarrel in My presence. I gave you the warning beforehand
29
مَا يُبَدَّلُ الْقَوْلُ لَدَيَّ وَمَا أَنَا بِظَلَّامٍ لِّلْعَبِيدِ
and My word shall not be changed, nor am I unjust to My servants.’

Commentary
(a) A picture of death and Doomsday thereafter has been drawn in these verses. It shows what will happen to those who, finding themselves free in this world, became arrogant. This pictorial description is so terrible as to cause extreme unease in the minds of all living beings.
